Essential learning | For teaching | Curriculum

Volcanic Panic is based on the New Zealand Curriculum for Levels 1 to 5 and designed to develop fluency in basic maths skills across the Number Strand, strengthening both computational skills and conceptual understanding.

Learning numeracy basics will put your child on the pathway to success with a solid maths foundation.

Volcanic Panic questions challenge the mathematical processes that students need to apply their content knowledge – this enhances reasoning skills and develops flexible problem solving strategies.

For Teaching

Variety of learning styles: Volcanic Panic caters for a variety of learning styles. Different question formats ensure topics are covered from various angles.

Maths activities have been created to help teachers assess whether students have met specific curriculum and teaching outcomes for the Numbers Strand.

User-management & record keeping: The game-save option enables multiple game sessions, networkable administration and record-keeping covering up to 2,048 users and up to 512 groups!

Custom Content: Specific maths categories or levels may be selected to drill individual players (eg Subtraction & Division). Practice one level or category of maths questions, or choose as many as you want. All categories and levels can be separately activated or deactivated.

Each player works from their own specific set of maths questions. This means that Jenny (Grade 2) can challenge Alvin (Grade 6) in the same game and have the same chance of winning.

Questions may also be presented outside gameplay in the 'Questions Only' section.

What people are saying about EdAlive products

'What a huge win for our school. We couldn't be more happier or impressed by Numbers Up! 1 and 2. The children think they are fantastic and fun to play. From a teacher’s perspective the software is great. The games allow multiple players, have fantastic graphics and sound. The fact that the games are syllabus-based is GOLD! Best products on the market by a mile!'
– Coley White, Teacher

'The strongest thing I can say about Volcanic Panic is that it has hardly been out of the PC since we got it. It's terrific – thank you!'
– John Smith, Parent, Buckinghamshire UK

'What is brilliant about Volcanic Panic is that it teaches the language of maths – less than, more than, after etc. rather than just the number bonds. My 6 year-old is autistic and is very able on the latter, but struggles with the language. He absolutely loves this game and is learning without realising it.'
– John Smith, Parent
