Spelling Force becomes a dual‑purpose spelling platform

Over the winter months, Spelling Force Online has undergone a major transformation. Now, in addition to its powerful Automated Learning system, we’re excited to introduce teacher-created custom spelling lists—type in words directly or import them as a simple text file—giving you precise control over what students practise, when they practise it, and how it fits your weekly plans.

A bigger brain under the hood

Our inbuilt vocabulary has grown from 12,000 words to over 45,000. Each of these words is fully voiced and accompanied by spoken context sentences, dictionary definitions, and syllabification. This rich multi-sensory support deepens understanding and spelling mastery, while greatly expanding the scope of Spelling Force and streamlining the creation of custom lists—far more of the words you teach are now recognised out of the box.

What’s new at a glance:

  • Custom Lists: Create your own spelling sets by entering words or importing a text file. Watch the video.
  • Expanded Vocabulary and more Topics: From 12,000 to 45,000+ words, including voiced words, context sentences, dictionary definitions, and syllabification and an expanded range of topics. Watch the video
  • Smarter Adaptivity: Optimised the Automated Learning system to more effectively manage student progression and added clear prompts to explain the students’ progress. Watch the video.
  • Practice Mode: Allows students to revise words spelled incorrectly by hearing them and their context sentences again, spelling them out letter by letter for enhanced reinforcement and having the opportunity to type them repetitiously for reinforcement. Watch the video.

Effortless alignment with write‑in spelling books:

The new Custom Spelling List capability makes it a breeze to use the powerful capabilities of Spelling Force with third-party published* write‑in spelling book series, including:

  • Sounds Write
  • Jolly Phonics
  • Alpha to Omega
  • MultiLit Spell-It
  • Oxford Spelling Books …and more

All these series offer week‑by‑week word lists that you can manually enter or quickly import if a digital version is available, making integration seamless and time efficient. Once in the Spelling Force system, these resources can be used with all of the games, quizzes, tests and activities.

Spelling Force transformed to make teaching spelling so much easier

Together, these enhancements build on our automated learning system and transform Spelling Force into a dual‑purpose spelling platform:

  • Automated learning for individualised, continuous progression.
  • Manual control for targeted instruction in specific teaching situations—ideally suited to week‑by‑week write‑in spelling books or your bespoke spelling lists.

We’re excited for you and your students to experience these powerful new features.

Make sure that you check out these amazing enhancements

If you already have a subscription to Spelling Force or you would like to start a FREE 30-day school trial, make sure you check out these incredible new capabilities. They are not gimmicks or small enhancements, but powerful new capabilities that will transform the way you teach spelling.

* Important note on licensing and IP:

To use material from third‑party book series within Spelling Force, ensure you have the appropriate licence—such as purchasing the books—and comply with any publisher requirements. The intellectual property in these series belongs to their respective publishers and is not part of Spelling Force in the first instance. However, given Spelling Force’s extensive 45,000+ word vocabulary, it’s highly likelythat the words you need for these series to work with Spelling Force are already in-built.
