About the commercial release

On Feb 5th 2025 we were excited to transition Spelling Force from its pre-release version to a commercial release.

With this new online version of Spelling Force we have created a tool that makes the teaching of spelling so much easier. Building on the multi-award-winning CD version, the new online version is massively upgraded.

New capabilities are significant and include:

As it is right now Spelling Force can automatically level, progress and challenge your students in a way that no other spelling programme can. Over the coming months we will add more and more powerful features including:

Greatly expanded inbuilt curated spelling lists that integrate with the advanced record keeping system, activities and games. 
Allocate curated lists by student or whole class. 
Apply one or more of the inbuilt Curated Spelling Lists to one or more students for a set amount of time or until the Curated Spelling List is completed.

Create and save your own Custom Spelling Lists. 
Custom Spelling Lists can combine words from various Curated Spelling Lists, as well any words that are not currently part of Spelling Force that you wish to add
Use your saved Custom Spelling Lists for weekly class or current class focus spelling lists.
Apply your Custom Spelling Lists to one or more students for a set amount of time or until the custom spelling list is completed.
An unlimited number of Custom Spelling Lists can be created and saved for current or later use.

We also have a range of advanced capabilities planned that will enable students to access a review list from whence they can revise the words they have learnt and practice words to be learnt.

Spelling Force integrates with the EdAlive Central school and class management system which is ST4S accredited. If you have existing students and classes set up in EdAlive Central, they will work with Spelling Force.

Context Sentences

Each spelling word is used in a context sentence. Misspellings are also listed.

Dictionary support

Each spelling word is linked to a dictionary definition enabling students to discover the meaning of unfamiliar words extending their understanding and vocabulary.

Spelling Activities

Test

Presents words by announcing the word and reading the sentence.
There is no time limit so students can spell the word when they are ready.
Students using test mode can progress rapidly through the word lists.
Works with both Automatic and Manual selection modes

Look Listen Learn

Displays the spelling word on screen while the student begins to ‘learn’ the word as they ‘look’ at it and ‘listen’ to it. The word is then covered while the child writes the word by typing it from memory.
The word is then checked against the original and any differences highlighted.
Acts as scaffolding as students learn the word.
Works with both Automatic and Manual selection modes.

NAPLAN Simulator!

Faithfully recreates the spelling activities used in the actual NAPLAN Conventions of Language spelling test environment

Allows students to practise their spelling as they become familiar with the NAPLAN style of testing.
Modes include the “Spell the missing word”, “Correctly type the highlighted incorrect word in the sentence” and “Identify and correctly spell the incorrect word in the sentence”
NB this is not an official NAPLAN resource, but a simulator created by harnessing the innate capabilities of Spelling Force.

Vocabulary Building

As each spelling word and its related sentence is voiced students are progressively exposed to unfamiliar words used in context. They can then choose to read the word and its context sentence and if necessary, access the related dictionary definition.
The vast graded content ensures that no matter the level of the student their vocabulary will rapidly expand as they use Spelling Force.

Automatic Levelling (Adaptive and Mastery Learning)

Each student automatically works at their own level

Automatic Levelling uses a unique combination of Adaptive and Mastery modes to quickly level each child and then progressively present spelling content.

The Adaptive Learning mode initially and quickly levels each child and re-levels them if the words being presented are too hard or too easy.
The Mastery Learning mode progressively presents the spelling words for the user's ability level. This enables reinforcement of the spelling rules, patterns and topics inbuilt in the word groups and progressions.
Ensures that each pupil's learning is focused on mastering the words and spelling patterns required for them to progress.

How the Weekly Leaderboards Work

Motivation and Engagement

The Spelling Force Leaderboards are designed to boost student motivation and engagement by giving dynamic feedback to the class. They create an opportunity for students in a class to work together.

How The Weekly Leaderboards Work

Each word spelled is recorded
Results are tallied class by class
Results are re-calculated every 15 minutes
The current calculated results display when the Leaderboard is loaded
Pressing the "Refresh" button every 15 minutes will display new results
The time remaining displays in the digital countdown
At the end of the week the top ranking classes are awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trophy status

Age Brackets

To ensure the fairest competition between classes, the leaderboard defaults to show results grouped by age brackets.

Use the icons at the top of the Leaderboard to drill down by Country and State.

I can't See My Class or Don't See The Expected Results

Only classes where the teacher or school administrator has set the age level of the class will be shown on the age-based leaderboard. This can be set using the “Edit Class Details” button on the class management screen. If you have not already done so, please ensure your classes have the correct ages now.

We employ standard deviation filters to ensure that results that are atypical for a student are discounted and not used for the calculation of class results. This methodology assumes that each student will build their skills in a progressive manner and guards against the possibility of others with higher skills speeds artificially inflating a student’s result by working in their account.

Classes with significantly more or less students than typical classes are not displayed in the Leaderboard.

Inactive classes, in which none or only a small number of students have completed questions during the week, will not be displayed on the Leaderboard.

Click the Calendar icon to view the Leaderboard results for all classes including your own from last week and previous weeks.

Leaderboard time periods

The Leaderboards are re-calculated each week at midnight Australian Eastern Standard Time (Sydney). Each answer is recorded in real time and feeds into this calculation.

See the results for your school only

When logged in students can view the results for all active classes at their school including their own. This makes it easy for you to have in-school competitions.

If Leaderboards are not for your school

Some schools may prefer that classes from their school are not displayed on the Leaderboard. If this is the case, the school administrator can simply uncheck the “Participate in competition” option on the My School screen of the School Administration menu. Please note we cannot remove results retrospectively.
